Sale Sharks pre-season training with Crazy Catch

Crazy Catch were delighted to travel to Carrington training base earlier this month to work with Aviva Premiership Rugby Union side Sale Sharks as their pre-season got into full swing. This video was created in partnership with Centurion Rugby who retail the Crazy Catch and supply Sale Sharks with training equipment.

The Crazy Catch was first associated with Rugby in the lead up to the 2003 World Cup where Sir Clive Woodward used innovative training methods to turn England into World Cup winners. This included using Dr Sherylle Calder, a vision and eye specialist to improve players vision. Calder used the Crazy Catch as a tool to improve eye tracking and peripheral vision and has subsequently worked with other leading sports stars to give them an edge including Ernie Els, the 2012 British Open Winner.

Now Rugby clubs are using the Crazy Catch to improve their reactions, hand eye co-ordination and also specific rugby skills such as handling, picking up a loose ball and you can see in the video above how fun training can be with the Ultimate Rebound Net. We are now getting lots of interest from professional rugby clubs and are supporting Leicester Tigers community roadshows and have recently supplied Connacht Rugby with a number of units to support their training programme for the new season. England’s fielding edge (The Sky Sports fielding masterclass)

England’s 2-0 lead in the Ashes has been a fantastic watch. As well as top class knocks from the likes of Ian Bell and Joe Root, much of England’s success so far has been put down to their superior fielding skills which was once seen as their major downfall. Much credit here goes to specialist fielding coach Richard Halsall whose role was highlighted in this recent Guardian article. The piece tells of the work he does with the players which is attributed as a major reason why Alastair Cook’s side have now been consistently ranked among the world’s best.

The England squad have been using the Crazy Catch for a number of years now but more recently the new handheld Crazy Catch Freestyle has been an important part of their pre match warm up’s as it allows players to practice their short distance catching eg man of the moment Joe Root at Silly mid on/off.

Sky Sports viewers might have also seen the fielding masterclass on Saturday which was filmed whilst the players were warming up. Ian Ward was joined by Nasser Hussain, Shane Warne and Andrew Strauss as they outlined how Crazy Catch rebound nets are used to improve reactions through repetition slip catching drills. The practice is obviously paying off for England as they continue to pile the pressure on the Aussie top order… Take a look at the Sky piece below…

NI GK Academy and Crazy Catch

Crazy Catch are delighted to be working alongside Northern Ireland’s ONLY Professional Goalkeeping Academy & Development Programme, the NIGK Academy.

Richard Beghin and the NI GK Academy team

Richard Beghin and the NI GK Academy team

The academy is run by Michael Dougherty for Keepers of all levels & all ages. They originally discovered the Crazy Catch as recently as 2 months ago and ordered some Wildchild Double  Troubles and Freestyles for use with their young keepers; helping them to develop their technique and reactions.

They were an instant hit with Michael quoting “I have used them both in some sessions & would like to say how happy we are with them. Both items are fantastic & perfect for the young goalkeepers in our academy. Such was the impact on using them at last weeks coach mentoring group I have had an interest from several of the coaches about buying them.”

Since those early days, Flicx UK MD Richard Beghin has recently been over to Belfast to see NIGK in action and was very impressed by the professionalism of the sessions. The guys have also filmed this video below and continue to use them at the academy daily with all the kids really enjoying working with the “Ultimate Rebound Net”.

We look forward to the future with @MicDougherty1
