Legacy Netball hosted their inaugural netball camp this weekend at Brunel University and Crazy Catch were on hand to add the Ultimate Rebound Net to the fun on offer. Legacy Netball is owned by England Netballers Serena Guthrie and Sasha Corbin, who is also a Crazy Catch ambassador and the camps saw some of Sasha’s Crazy Catch Solo Sessions brought to the event.

Strike, Defend, Evade is an excellent new batting drill from Crazy Catch working on your Vision and Cognitive decision making. With the coach feeding behind the batsmen, it’s a great position from which to provide instant feedback or hone a certain shot.
Three different coloured balls are used (the Crazy Catch Vision balls are also slightly different weights which come off the net at different speeds) and firstly green balls are used with the batter trying to evade balls around the head area replicating short pitched deliveries. Then a red ball is add with the batter looking to strike and go after each ball; thirdly a defend ball is added. Now the coach feeds randomly these three coloured balls and the batter needs to process the colour and make the appropriate decision.
Again with the Crazy Catch, you can alter the level of challenge in this drill by varying the pace of the feed – whilst if you want even more unpredictability – try the insane side. England women’s opener Tammy Beaumont whose currently lining up in the #WWC17 provides her top tip
It’s important to look to play the ball first, then get out the way if needed. As you develop, you’ll learn its hard to control the ball when it gets around your head height so it may be best to leave those. Whether you duck or sway normally depends on the line of the ball. If it’s outside off stump or the line of your body its easier to sway out of the way. If the ball is on the line of your body then its better to duck under the ball to avoid falling on the floor!!
