Wicket Keeping Training Drill | Cricket

Think Outside the Box and take your wicket keeping skills to the next level. Tammy Beaumont demonstrates a STUMPING AND CATCHING drill using the Crazy Catch Upstart INSANE side which creates an unpredictable rebound simulating deliveries off the pitch and balls which “nick off ” the bat or glove. This drill works on movement behind the stumps and dealing with deflections.

Download the PDF coaching resource for all the Think Outside the Box drills with Tammy Beaumont and Mark Garaway http://thinkoutsidethebox.pagedemo.co/ and check out the Crazy Catch range with its unique INSANE rebound to take your cricket skills to the next level.

Tammy’s Top Tip – “This drill is great to test out your movement as a wicket keeper. As your confidence grows you can test out how far you can cover with the angle of the Crazy Catch. Look to move fast and late. The most important thing with this drill is to get your head as
close to the ball as possible, because your hands will always follow”

What is it like to have a 1 to 1 training session with England Netballer Sasha Corbin??

On Wednesday, 15th November, a very lucky member of the Halesowen based Grasshoppers Netball bagged herself a one-on-one training session with Hertfordshire Mavericks and England star Sasha Corbin.

Sasha set up the competition in conjunction with Crazy Catch UK as part of her Solo Sessions campaign, fun and informative videos designed for netballers to be able to practice drills and hone their skills by themselves.

Sasha said: “I set up Solo Sessions so fellow netballers could have a fun way to practice outside team training sessions, and one great way is to use a Crazy Catch. We had such a positive response to the videos on social media, I decided to set up a competition so one lucky follower could win their very own Crazy Catch and I could give them some tips that would hopefully help them with their game.”

The competition was open to everyone at all levels of ability and eventual winner, Jenna Hadley, was picked by random out of hat and announced via Sasha’s Solo Session channels. The session took place at the Grasshoppers local training venue, Haden Hill Leisure Centre.

Sasha added: “I had a fantastic time with Jenna, it was great for the prize to go to someone that really wanted it. We had so much fun looking at how we could improve her skills and incorporate the Crazy Catch into drills she can practice at home. Jenna had fantastic energy and I wish her, and her team, the best of luck for the rest of the season.”

Jenna commented: “I was completely overwhelmed, and very excited, to find out I had won the session with Sasha. I still don’t think it has sunk in. I only started playing netball in 2014 by attending Back to Netball, so it was such a useful session to learn some key skills and get lots of ideas for training.

“We went through lots of basics, and Sasha definitely made me work, but she was great coach and very patient with me. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from someone so talented to get better at something that you love to do! I had a brilliant time and it will be something I’ll remember forever.”

As well as the Crazy Catch range for cricket which covers (from smallest to largest) the Crazy Catch Freestyle, Crazy Catch Upstart Classic, Crazy Catch Wildchild Classic and the Crazy Catch Professional Classic, we also have some excellent new Vision Ball packs which can help develop visual skills and are used in cognitive decision making and to provide a different pace of bounce/ rebound. Strike, Defend, Evade | Add another dimension to your batting training

Strike, Defend, Evade is an excellent new batting drill from Crazy Catch working on your Vision and Cognitive decision making. With the coach feeding behind the batsmen, it’s a great position from which to provide instant feedback or hone a certain shot.

Three different coloured balls are used (the Crazy Catch Vision Balls are also slightly different weights which come off the net at different speeds) and firstly green balls are used with the batter trying to evade balls around the head area replicating short pitched deliveries. Then a red ball is add with the batter looking to strike and go after each ball; thirdly a defend ball is added. Now the coach feeds randomly these three coloured balls and the batter needs to process the colour and make the appropriate decision.

Again with the Crazy Catch, you can alter the level of challenge in this drill by varying the pace of the feed – whilst if you want even more unpredictability – try the insane side. England women’s opener Tammy Beaumont who won the world cup with England, provides her top tip

It’s important to look to play the ball first, then get out the way if needed. As you develop, you’ll learn its hard to control the ball when it gets around your head height so it may be best to leave those. Whether you duck or sway normally depends on the line of the ball. If it’s outside off stump or the line of your body its easier to sway out of the way. If the ball is on the line of your body then its better to duck under the ball to avoid falling on the floor!!
